Sweet corn soup is very simple to make. As we all know, soup is usually served before a meal because it stimulates the appetite and is also healthy to drink. Various vegetables and spices are used to make the soup, and sweet corn soup can be made in many different ways.

The main ingredient of this soup is corn kernels, which is also how the soup gets its name. Sweet corn soup can be made using frozen corn, but it is always better to use fresh corn whenever possible.

Using fresh corn enhances the flavor of the sweet corn soup significantly. To make the soup thicker, you can add cornflour or arrowroot powder. Here, I have prepared a slurry of arrowroot powder and added it to the soup. From a health perspective, corn can be a very beneficial food for the body.

It is rich in vitamin C and various antioxidants, which help protect us from serious diseases like cancer and heart disease. In India, there are many varieties of corn, but I have used the American corn, which is easily available in the market, to make this soup.

Corn can be used to make not just soup but also healthy chaats, corn curry, corn pulao, corn cheese balls, and many other dishes. Whatever dish you make with corn, every recipe turns out to be very delicious and satisfying. I personally enjoy every dish made with corn.

Corn – 1 1/2
Sugar – 3 tablespoons
Water
Cabbage – 1/2
Capsicum (Bell pepper) – 1/2
Green chilies – 2
Carrot – 2 small
Salt – to taste
Ajinomoto – 1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper powder – 1/2 tablespoon
Black salt – 1/2 tablespoon
Cornflour slurry – 2 tablespoons

How to make sweet corn soup

To make sweet corn soup, heat water in a pot. Once the water is hot, add the corn kernels and sugar. Let it boil. Once the corn kernels become soft, turn off the gas flame. Strain it using a sieve. Divide the boiled corn into equal portions. Once it cools down, grind it coarsely.

Now, take a non-stick pan and add the same water. Add the corn kernels, black pepper powder, salt, ajinomoto, and black salt. Add all the vegetables (carrot, cabbage, capsicum, and green chilies) and cook for 5-10 minutes with the lid on. After checking, remove the lid and add the cornflour slurry. Cook for another 2-3 minutes. Once the soup thickens to your desired consistency, turn off the flame. Your sweet corn soup is ready.

Tips

You can adjust the quantity of spices added to the soup according to your preference.

Instead of cornflour, you can also use arrowroot powder in the sweet corn soup.

If you prefer your sweet corn soup sweeter, you can adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste.

For making sweet corn soup, I have used American corn.

If you like, you can also add soy sauce to the sweet corn soup for an extra flavor.
