Fried moong dal

About fried moong dal

Fried moong dal namkeen is a delicious snack that everyone loves to eat with evening tea or coffee. Though it looks like a simple dal, it is very easy to make. By following a few simple steps, you can prepare crispy moong dal namkeen at home, just like the ones from the market. Since moong dal is not deep-fried, it doesn’t absorb too much oil, making it a healthier snack option. Sometimes, when we buy namkeen from the market, we don’t get the same taste, and if kept for some time, it develops a strange oily smell. The solution to all these problems is simple—prepare it yourself at home in a clean and hygienic environment.

This way, we can serve healthy snacks to people who love to eat namkeen. Just as moong dal is quick to make, storing it is also not a difficult task. You can store moong dal namkeen in an airtight container for about a month.

When we talk about namkeen, different varieties of namkeen come to mind. But if I share my personal preference, I particularly love eating moong dal. And if dry fruits are added to it according to one’s taste, the flavor of the moong dal becomes double. However, it’s important to choose the right dry fruits that will enhance the taste of the namkeen.

Moong dal is often mixed with cashews, almonds, and raisins. In this recipe, I have fried the almonds in oil and added the raisins as is. However, it’s not necessary to fry almonds in ghee; you can also roast them if you’re health-conscious and then add them to the moong dal.

Moong dal can be used to prepare many other amazing dishes, such as moong dal khichdi, moong dal bhajiya, moong dal halwa, moong dal cheela, and of course, moong dal, which is a staple in many kitchens and is served with rice. Dals are rich in various nutrients that play a vital role in the body’s growth. Moong dal, in particular, contains a high amount of protein, along with iron, fiber, and folate in good quantities, which are essential for overall health.

When buying dals, it’s always better to prioritize unpolished dal. Polished dal often contains chemicals that can be harmful to health. Polished dal, which appears shiny, is not as good for the body as unpolished dal.

Fried moong dal is a favorite snack for everyone, from kids to adults. Now, let’s get started with making everyone’s favorite fried moong dal namkeen! If you want to explore more amazing recipes like this, visit my other blogs and try out new and exciting dishes.

How to make fried moong dal

To make fried moong dal, first wash the dal 2-3 times with clean water. Then soak it for 2-3 hours. After soaking, drain the water and spread the dal on a clean, dry napkin. Use a spoon to spread the dal evenly and let it dry for 30-35 minutes.

Once the dal is dry, heat oil in a pan. Take a large strainer and add a small amount of dal to it. Fry the dal on high heat, and then reduce the flame to low-medium, frying the dal until it becomes crispy. Remove the fried dal from the pan and place it on a plate. Continue frying the remaining dal in the same way.

After all the dal is fried, mix in salt to taste. Serve the fried dal with fried almonds, cashews, and raisins on top. You can store it in an airtight container and enjoy it as a snack with tea or coffee in the evening whenever you like.

Tips

You can also place the fried moong dal on tissue paper to remove any excess oil.

If you want to give the dal a spicier taste, you can add red chili powder and chat masala to it.

Before soaking the dal, make sure to wash it once with clean water to remove any dirt or impurities.

Instead of frying the dry fruits, you can roast them and add them to the namkeen. This won’t affect the taste of the namkeen.
