About vanilla ice cream

Vanilla is a popular flavor derived from the pods of the vanilla plant. It is commonly used in desserts, baking, and especially in ice cream. To make vanilla ice cream, the main ingredients needed are milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. First, milk and cream are boiled together, and then sugar is added to the mixture. The mixture is cooled, and vanilla extract is added. This mixture is then placed in an ice cream maker and chilled to create thick and creamy ice cream. In Hindi, ice cream is referred to as “Sheetal Pap” or “Himadravya.”

In the summer season, no one can resist ice cream. After all, who doesn’t love ice cream? From kids to adults, everyone is a fan of it. Vanilla ice cream, in particular, is very simple to make. With just a few ingredients, you can easily prepare market-style vanilla ice cream at home. If we consider vanilla ice cream as the basic structure of ice cream, it wouldn’t be wrong, as we can add any flavor we like to make a variety of ice creams. But this doesn’t mean that vanilla ice cream isn’t tasty on its own. To make market-style vanilla ice cream, we add cream to the mixture.

Vanilla ice cream can be served plain, or you can top it with tutti-frutti, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, or dry fruits for extra flavor and texture. So, I tried my best to take a clean picture of the ice cream. However, it did melt a little when I took it out of the freezer and transferred it into the cup. In my recipe, I didn’t use cornstarch or custard powder to thicken the milk. Instead, I thickened the milk on the stove and mixed in sugar and condensed milk, then folded it with whipping cream. I froze it for 7-8 hours, and voilà, a perfectly creamy vanilla ice cream was ready! I’ve prepared the vanilla ice cream step by step with photos for reference. How to make vanilla ice cream

To make vanilla ice cream, first, heat 1 liter of milk in a non-stick pan until it boils. Now, add 1/2 cup of sugar and thicken the milk. Once the milk thickens, turn off the heat. When the milk cools slightly, add the condensed milk to it.

In a separate bowl, take whipping cream and add a few drops of vanilla essence. Place the bowl with the whipping cream over another bowl filled with ice. Using an electric beater, beat the cream until stiff peaks form.

Next, mix the milk with condensed milk into the whipped cream. Slowly fold the mixture together using a spatula until well combined. Now, pour the mixture into an ice cream box and freeze it for 7-8 hours. After 7-8 hours, check, and your vanilla ice cream is ready.

Tips

Whipping cream not only gives the ice cream a creamy texture but also increases its fat content. Therefore, if you prefer, you can use low-fat milk as well.

Before beating the whipping cream, take it out of the freezer and place it in the refrigerator for a few hours. This ensures that the cream remains cold and some part of ice crystals, making it easier to beat. Once beaten, the cream will hold its texture longer without breaking down quickly.

If you like your ice cream sweeter, you can adjust the quantity of condensed milk or sugar according to your taste preferences.

FAQ

What to do if you forgot to refrigerate whipping cream and need to beat it instantly?

Don’t worry! Simply place the whipping cream in lukewarm water for 10–15 minutes. This will help melt any ice inside the cream, making it easier to beat. However, ensure that no water enters the cream while doing this.

Should temperature be considered while beating whipping cream?

Yes, it’s important. While temperature may not be an issue during winter, in the summer, the room should be cool when whipping cream. You can opt for an air-conditioned room for this process. In a cooler environment, the cream will whip faster and hold its texture better for longer.
