Rice is an important part of indian diet. different types of dishes are made from rice. like rice idli, paratha and uttapam.  here i am going to share the recipe of jeera rice. the key ingredient of cumin rice is cumin. it is prepared by cumin seed and Ground masala. jeera rice is very simple recipe to make. it can be eaten with lentils or any vegetables. generally cumin is used in every dry and wet (gravy) vegetables. but in rice it’s gives a very good and different taste. so let’s start to make this jeera rice recipe.

Rice- 250 Gram

Cumin- 1/2 teaspoon

Cinamon stick- 1 inch

Clove- 4-5

Clarified butter- 1 Tablespoon

Black cardamom- 1

Green cardamom-  2

Bay leaf- 1

Lemon juice- 1-1.5 teaspoon

Water- 400 m.l.

Easy steps to make jeera rice

First, rinse the rice twice with clean water to remove acess dirt. and soak it in for 15-20 minutes. once soaked, drain the rice thoroughly using a fine strainer. on the other side. take a non- stick pan. and heat the clarified butter (ghee). when ghee is hot , add cumin and saute for while. add bay leaf, clove, black cardamom, green cardamom and cinamon in it.  saute the spices untill aromatic. now add drained rice to the pan. stir it for five minutes. when the rice starts to stick from the bottom.   

Add 400 m.l. of water. and bring it to roiling boil. now add a squeeze of lemon juice to the rice.( it enhances the brightness and prevent clumping). cover the pan with lid. allow the rice to cook for 10 minutes on medium to low flame. 

Once cooked remove the lid from the pan. turn off the flame. jeera rice is ready. and garnish it with some freshly chopped coriander. serve hot with dal or any vegetable. 

Tips(टिप्पणी)

jeera rice is often prepared without salt. however if you want you can add salt to it as per taste. but it’s totally optional. to achieve a bright white color, consider adding a pinch of salt. while boiling the rice. 

Choose high quality long grain basmati rice as it yeilds separate after cooking and ideal for dishes like jeera rice, pulao or biryani.
