Gram flour pancake is very tasty and healthy. and that can be included in breakfast and evening snacks. by adding tomatoes along with various vegetables i have made healthy chilla. the best thing is that you can pack these pancake in your child’s tiffin box without asking them. these pancakes great goes with chutneys. like tamarind chutney, green chutney and tomato sauce. there is no need for prior preparation to make gram flour pancakes. you can make it quickly. pancake can be made in sweet and savoury forms,  along with various modification.so, why not we start to make this tasty gram flour pancake.

Gram flour- 200 gram

flour- 50 gram

Semolina- 50 gram

Oil- 100 gram

Onion- 2 medium

Potato- 1

Tomato- 1 (Pulp removed)

Green onion- 1

Salt- to taste

Red chilli powder- 2 teaspoon

Green chilli- 2 medium

Whole coriander seeds

Spinach

Cumin seeds- 1/2 teaspoon

Baking powder- a pinch

Dried fenugreek leaves

How to make gram flour pancake step by step

For making pancake, take a bowl add gram flour, semolina and wheat flour. along this mix all the vegetables such as spinach, onion, potato, tomato, green onion, and green chilli, add the spices salt, cumin, red chilli powder, coriander seeds. mix everything thoroughly using a spatula. gradually add water to make a batter. ensure that consistency of the batter neither too thick nor thin. as this will affect to make perfect pancake. batter is ready and keep it aside for 5- 10 minutes. after resting, incorporate baking powder and crushed kasuri methi into the batter. mix it. place a non- stick tawa on the heat. spread oil on the surface of non- stick tawa. when the oil heat up. pour a ladelful batter onto the tawa and spred it in circular motion. using the back of the ladle. drizzle oil around the pancake. cook on the medium heat untill one side of chilla become golden brown. flip the chilla and continue cooking. untill it becomes crispy from both sides. crispy besan chilla is ready to serve with sauce and tamarind chutney.  

 Variation

Oats pancake- To make besan chilla healthier, oats can be added to the batter.

Panner chilla- Simiraly, grated paneer can be mixed into the batter to prepare paneer chilla. 

Tips

When preparing the batter, start with less waterand adjust gradually acoording to the quantity of besan. if needed add more water little by little. 

While making besan chilla, avoid coarse or grainy gram flour. as it may cause to break the chilla or crumble and will not hold together.

You can add seasonal vegetables to make healthy pancake. before adding vegetables to the batter. cut it into small pieces. 

For making soft chilla add baking powder to it. but it’s totally optional.
