How to make eggless churros

eggless churro

About churros recipe

Churros are a popular Spanish dessert typically made from long, thin strips of fried dough.

Traditionally, churros are made from a mixture of flour, water, butter, and eggs. However, for those who dislike eggs, eggless churros are also made, which taste just as delicious as the egg-based ones.

To make eggless churros, flour, water, butter (or oil), sugar, and salt are used. Then, the mixture is piped into long shapes using a star nozzle and fried in oil. Churros are served with chocolate sauce, chocolate dip, caramel sauce, or any sauce of your choice.

Churros are light and crispy, coated with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. If you look closely, churros are essentially a modified version of the Indian mathri. Just like we add moin (fat) to the mathri dough and fry it in oil, churros follow a similar recipe. The only difference is in the ingredients used.

In our home, my mom still makes this sweet mathri, which we sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy with pickle. It’s incredibly delicious. Making churros is also very easy.

It gets ready very quickly and in no time, and everyone, from kids to adults, loves it. If you liked this recipe, don’t forget to click on the link below to explore my other recipes.

Water – 1/2 cup

Butter – 1 tablespoon

Sugar – 1 teaspoon

Salt – A pinch

Caster sugar – 2 tablespoons

Cinnamon powder – 1 teaspoon

How to make churros

To make churros, start by adding water, sugar, and salt to a pan. Then add butter and bring it to a boil. Once it boils, turn off the gas. Now, add the flour and mix it well to avoid any lumps. Next, place a star nozzle in a piping bag and fill it with the flour mixture. Heat oil in a kadhai and pipe out long strips of the mixture, one by one. Fry them until golden brown. Once fried, coat the churros in a mixture of caster sugar and cinnamon. The churros are ready! Serve the hot churros with chocolate sauce.

Tips

For making churros, always use a double piping bag to avoid the batter splattering and coming out unevenly.

You can directly drop the churro strips into the hot oil, or if you prefer, you can place them on a plate one by one. However, if you do it this way, when you pick up the churros by hand to fry them in the oil, their shape might get ruined at some points.
